Welcome!
Our Mission: Monte Sano United Methodist Church welcomes ALL to grow in love and faith through Christ.

We hope you’ll join us at Monte Sano United Methodist Church. Whether you come for a worship service, a class, a community event, or simply to enjoy the beautiful grounds of the church, you are always welcome here.

Welcome is at the heart of who we feel called to be as a community of faith. Our mission is “to welcome ALL to grow in love and faith.” When we say “ALL,” we mean all. Every person, regardless of age, gender, race, nationality, ability, or sexual orientation, is welcome to fully participate in the life of our church family. We believe that every person needs a place where they can worship, serve, and grow in their relationship with God. We hope we might be that place for you.

Worship is usually the first place our guests find connection within our family of faith.  It is a great opportunity to meet the people who make up the church, learn about the ministries we offer, and ask questions.  Every Sunday morning, we offer two worship services in our sanctuary:

9:00am Contemporary Worship Service

11:00am Traditional Worship Service

Between these services at 10:00am, we have Sunday School opportunities for adults, youth, and children.  We also have a wonderful nursery for babies and toddlers.

If you have any questions about the church, worship services, or the Monte Sano community in general, we are here to welcome you!

For general questions, we invite you to contact the church office at montesanoumc@gmail.com

Our History

The history of Monte Sano United Methodist Church is tied to the earliest expressions of faith on the mountain.  Monte Sano Union Chapel, which was affectionately known as “The Little White Church” on the corner of Nolen Avenue and the Boulevard, began having worship services in the 1930s.  In 1943, it transitioned from a nondenominational church and officially became Monte Sano Methodist Church.  By 1961, the congregation had outgrown the church and bought the property the church now sits upon.  The first Sanctuary was constructed in 1962, followed by an additional building built in 1967, which is now our Administration and Youth Building.

As the community of Monte Sano changed, so did the needs of the church.  What began as a “neighborhood church” now welcomes members from Monte Sano, across Huntsville, and beyond. This growth necessitated the construction of a new Sanctuary in 2010 that would better meet the needs of the church and community.

The church buildings have long been a hub of activity for community events and organizations.  Whether it is karate classes, Spanish language classes, Monte Sano Village, yoga & balance Classes, or the Monte Sano Makos Swim Banquet, there is always something going on at the church!

Today, Monte Sano UMC strives to be a welcoming and inclusive community of faith.  Wherever you are on your journey of faith, there is a place for you.  Whether you have been a lifelong churchgoer or you are just beginning an exploration of what faith might look like,  Monte Sano UMC is a place where questions are welcomed, uncertainty is okay, and mystery is part of the journey we are all on.
