Day of Service

Hands 4 Huntsvillehands4huntsville

In the fall of every year, Monte Sano United Methodist Church members lift their heart and hands outward into the community.  In place of our regular Sunday morning schedule of worship, we worship together through SERVING our community.

Each year, hundreds of volunteers gather to serve all over the city of Huntsville and in the Monte Sano community.  Projects range from painting houses to writing notes of encouragement.  From helping the homeless to packing meals.  There is something for everyone, regardless of age or ability.

On September 24, 2017, these projects happened:

  • Pack Meals

–Pack 10,152 meals with Rise Against Hunger to feed the hungry around the world.

  • Assemble Health Kits

–Assemble 200 Health Kits for UMCOR.   These health kits are given to people in need during times of disaster and weather-related emergencies.

  • Make Sandwiches

–Help make sandwiches and food packs for Manna house and other organizations to be distributed to the homeless throughout Huntsville.

  • Can Goods

–Brought non-perishable food items to stock the food pantry shelves.  Bags were filled up with groceries.

  • Write Notes

-Wrote “Notes of Encouragement” to persons who lost a loved one through military service,  those who are ill, and others.

  • Did Maintenance

–Did maintenance work at on a home on Monte Sano Mountain for someone in need.

  • Helped the Homeless Animals

Did cleanup and maintenance at the Arc Animal Shelter.  Youth grades 7th through 12th were especially encouraged to help with this project.  Adult supervision and instruction was provided.

More projects were accomplished as they came to our attention.  If you feel lead to help coordinate or facilitate a project for our 2018 Day of Service, please call the church office.
