In the fall of every year, Monte Sano United Methodist Church members lift their heart and hands outward into the community.  In place of our regular Sunday morning schedule of worship, we worship together through SERVING our community.

Each year, hundreds of volunteers gather to serve all over the city of Huntsville and in the Monte Sano community.  Projects range from painting houses to writing notes of encouragement.  From helping the homeless to packing meals.  There is something for everyone, regardless of age or ability.

 

This year, join us for these projects and more:

  • Pack Meals

          –Pack 10,152 meals with Rise Against Hunger to feed the hungry around the world.  There will be an onsite trainer, and all ages can help.  We need about 40 to 50 volunteers.

  • Assemble Health Kits

          –Assemble 200 Health Kits for UMCOR.  Items are purchased ahead, and adults are asked to assemble according to UMCOR instructions.  These health kits are given to people in need during times of disaster and weather-related emergencies.

  • Make Sandwiches

          –Help make sandwiches and food packs for Manna house and other organizations to be distributed to the homeless throughout Huntsville.

  • Bring Can Goods

          –Bring non-perishable food items to stock the food pantry shelves.  Bags to fill up with groceries will be available on September 17th.

  • Write Notes

-Write “Notes of Encouragement” to persons who lost a loved one through military service,  those who are ill, and others.   Names and addresses will be available the morning of the event.  We will take care of postage.

  • Do Maintenance

        –Do maintenance work at on a home on Monte Sano Mountain for someone in need.  A contractor will have the supplies and will notify volunteers of the items and/or skills needed to complete the job.

  • Help the Homeless Animals

Do cleanup and maintenance at the Arc Animal Shelter.  Youth grades 7th through 12th are especially encourage to help with this project.  Adult supervision and instruction will be provided.  Liability release forms will be available in the weeks prior to this event for parents to sign.
